And my productive summer looks so un-fun now.

Well, the above was drawn and edited all with my left hand...and being that I am right handed, it isn't exactly great.

While doing the started packs at the library a pain that I regularly have in my wrist...got a lot worse. In the end I had to go to hospital and now I have wear a disgusting brown/supposedly skin coloured splint on my wrist/arm for a month...then go back.

Great.

Library floor plans.

As I work in the Library at college as a student helper, I helped out early in July doing the starter packs for a few courses.

While I was there, they were re-designing there leaflets and signage etc. They wanted floor plans of both libraries to highlight the areas that you can find certain types of books. They had rough drawings but needed them vectorising.

They were asking me how to do it...and I thought rather than teaching someone how to use illustrator, I could do it at home.

Its a far cry from what I want to make a living from! But I was happy to help...(and they paid me so...)

Reality hits...

My trip to New York, the things that I saw and did made me realise something...which i'm now taking as a positive.

For a while I had a negative attitude towards graphic design etc...and thought, heyyyy i'll just set up a cleaning business or something lol.

No. No I do not think that anymore...phew!

But! I need to make it, so that I enjoy what I'm doing.

I started writing a list of people I was going to email over summer, designers and also companies that I would potentially like to work for. When I got a few people on this list...I started to put together a .pdf that I could send out.

Specifically when it came to the companies I aspire to do work for...I was looking at the work I have produced and thought 'Well, I barely have anything that I feel happy with thats appropriate to send to them?'

The whole point of me doing this degree is so that I can have a job that I Love in the future

SO! My plan...I need to draw more.
I need to draw things I want to draw, to an extent developing my own style but also so I can have more things to show, more than just college briefs.
I need my work to reflect me more, rather than saying 'This is what I've done but I'm gonna work differently in the future.'

I want to be an illustrator.
I want to illustrate words...
I love words!
I want to draw people.
Make people laugh.
I want to enjoy what I'm doing rather than 'do it to get a degree'.
I want to be good at it.

Rant over.

Poor birdy...

I saw this picture in the metro and I decided to draw it...I don't have a particular reason lol, I just liked it.

New York New York (So good, they named it twice)

So, the day after college officially finished for summer...I started it off in the perfect way, my 21st birthday trip to NYC.

It was amazing!

However, I'm back now. In England.

I mentioned a while ago in PPD that I was trying to contact Mike Perry because he had a studio in Brooklyn, unfortunately he never replied and I admit, I didn't pester him as much as I could.

Below is a flickr slideshow of some of my photos...it doesn't look like flickr slideshows are that good, but they're there.
